VANHOOSECO

Our History

VANHOOSECO’S history began with quality and service in the early 1980’s when Jeff VanHoose, along with his brother Barry, started what is now Pour In Place, Inc. They began pouring custom manholes in place on-site in the Dallas Texas Metro Area. They soon became labeled as “The Manhole Magicians” (meaning they could make anything with concrete). Success in Texas was great, but feeling a homesick for East Tennessee, the brothers moved the company back to the Knoxville area in 1986. They were so successful in building their Pour In Place client base, that many customers were always trying to convince Jeff to start a precast company to deliver the same kind of excellent customer service that Pour In Place had always provided. In the late 1990’s realizing the precast producers were his only competition, and with the precast market being clearly underserved, lacking quality companies who would provide a high level of customer service along with quality precast structures, Jeff decided to build and open a new precast company called East Tennessee Precast to standardize the production of concrete sanitary and storm sewer manholes and other precast products. This standardization increased quality, reduced cost, and shorted customer lead times. With the continued success throughout the East and Middle Tennessee regions, other large precast companies started noticing this success too. In early 2007, it has been said that “Jeff must have had a crystal ball or some insight to the recession”, because he offered East Tennessee Precast for sale in perfect timing. With four potential buyers bidding on the company, Hanson Pipe and Precast was successful in their offer, purchasing East Tennessee Precast and leaving Jeff with a five-year limited non-competition agreement.

After a successful sale and having more time on his hands, Jeff decided to make an offer to his brother for complete control of their Pour In Place company. His brother, wanting to pursue other interest, accepted the offer and Jeff expanded as a General Contractor to the commercial and industrial markets as well as adding a Mechanical and Millwright license to the Pour In Place company portfolio. This permitted for the placement of the crews into the larger manufacturing plants working for completely different types of customers. These new customers care more about safety and only allow safe contractors to bid their work, meaning a larger percentage of the projects are being negotiated, thus allowing for a safer work environment with a much greater percentage of awarded contracts, all while realizing higher profit margins. This was a win win situation, building successful long-term relationships, and having the employees working with and around companies that care more about safety.

In late 2008, after purchasing a large parcel on the Tennessee River in Blair Bend Industrial Park near downtown Loudon, Jeff extended his operations by breaking ground and building a new manufacturing facility in Loudon Tennessee to offer extensive expertise in Ready Mix and Precast Products as well as proven Valued-Engineered Construction Solutions.

Building new companies and expanding the existing companies during the recession would not have been the best advice from most business experts. However, Jeff had always been an out of the box thinker, so in August 2012, with the recession still lingering and with the five year non-compete agreement being fulfilled, Jeff breaks ground on the new VANHOOSECO Precast Plant announcing to the customers, they can expect the highest quality products with the same absolute World Class Customer Service they received in the past from East Tennessee Precast.

With successful growth, Jeff had the vision to incorporate all the companies under the VANHOOSECO name, which had already become synonymous with Quality and Service. Through continued expansion these privately held companies spread into various sectors of the construction markets to include the following companies; VANHOOSECO Precast (specializing in sewer and drainage products, precast walls and structural precast components), VANHOOSECO Mechanical and Millwright (specialists in industrial mechanical piping and precision fitting of piping systems and machinery), VANHOOSECO Ready Mix (producers of high quality concrete and proven mix designs). Later, VANHOOSECO Leasing and VANHOOSECO Management were formed in 2015 as special purpose entities allowing for intentional tax advantages while also streamlining corporate accountings processes.

The VANHOOSECO group of companies all share the common feature of being appreciative and indebted to all their customers. The group’s dedicated employees, guarantees VANHOOSECO offers the very best in Quality and Service to the markets we serve.
